Tonight’s lesson has little and big lectures in amongst the movements, I’m not sure if Megan will be reading them or not.. either way I thought you might like to read Moshe’s words for your self.
His writing (and speaking - remember English is his 2nd, 3rd or 4th language) has been described as “dense”, the words are packed together layering meaning amongst other meanings.. like this:
“That means to pay attention to which parts of the body press and how.
There are parts that press more and there are parts that press less.
There are parts that touch and there are parts that do not touch.
I will use this opportunity to clarify this for you because there are many old timers who do not pay attention to this, who don't do this, and newcomers who do not know what to do when you say "to pay attention to the body."
For this, you need to understand our way.
That way is the intention for people to learn something during every lesson.
What does it mean, "in every lesson?"
You can learn all sorts of things.
You can learn that the Iran of today was at one time called Persia.
If someone learns something like this, it does not change his life at all and it does not influence most things unless it relates specifically to it.
There is learning like this. This means gaining information.
If you know it, "okay." If you do not, "not so good." It is important only in an exceptional situation. But, there is a type of learning that changes one's life. This means that it changes the reaction of the person to what he did before. Someone who did not know how to walk at all and suddenly his legs are fixed. He can walk. This changes his entire life. In a place where he would have to wait for someone to take him, he can go by himself and he goes to places where he did not go before. This changes his whole attitude toward life. The same thing with a person who has a car and suddenly learned how to drive. So, on Sabbath morning he goes to Eilat or to a beach somewhere. His attitude toward everything changes. This is fundamental primary learning. This means changing your reaction to things you are accustomed to doing. Before there was one reaction and now there is another one. There are things that are even more important. For instance, a teenager turns into what, becomes what? He or she becomes a man or a woman only after he or she has had a sexual experience. This one experience changes one's whole attitude toward life.
This is called learning.
We want to do learning like this. For this type of learning, it is necessary that it be done slowly and according to the speed of absorption of each one individually. It is just like in early childhood. With babies you do not set a time when a child will walk, you just begin to worry if a child does not begin walking after two years and you begin to think that something is not okay. Generally, a child learns to walk.
Nobody knows how, but the child learns. How does he learn? Something grows in the nervous system. There is personal experience and he corrects himself through this, but he learns quickly. There are those who have defects in the system. Then, under the same conditions as the rest of the animals, this child does not learn how to walk well. That means there are important changes in the nervous system and somehow personal experience is also important in the learning. But, the most fundamental aspect is that during the learning the majority, ninety-nine point nine percent, learn to speak, ninety-nine point nine percent or more learn to walk and run.
This only happens when a time is not set when you must know this specific thing. The moment you set times - when you set specific demands that you will speak like that on this day and like this on that day - then the majority would miss the point and would never know. It is just like in a school that says you must do this course this year. Everyone works hard and from this type of learning one- percent remains. The vast majority forgets what they learned. A few, those who learned, would learn from any teacher or even without a teacher, and a number do not learn anything and they must be placed in a school for idiots. I assert that this is an absence of understanding of what learning is, what education is.
The moment you set times, the issue is finished. Now, in movements, in the learning that we do, where people already are adults, they already have habits and have learned how to use their bodies and spirits, so to learn from the beginning is even more difficult. It is necessary that the mind and emotions will mix and work like a baby who learns something new. Therefore, we must go slowly and allow everyone his speed. It is forbidden to set the pace. You can do it, but then you choose two who will be excellent from one hundred people and the rest will be garbage, just like in school.
We are interested in another type of learning. We said that you must involve the mind and the emotions. That means that during the learning a person must discern that what he does really makes a change in his body and spirit, that it feels different. This is the pace that you feel now. Many are lying. Many have learned to pay attention to the manner in which the body lies and others have not. We will do something. This means we will give you the opportunity to learn what you feel. Also, this is done in an unusual way. So as not to speak at length and to begin to do, I will clarify while doing.
First of all - not quickly. This means everyone does at a speed at which he is comfortable and everyone stops when they feel it is uncomfortable. Do not effort. We do not want to strengthen the will, but the ability. When there is ability you do not need will. For instance, to pick your nose, you do not need any wilful effort. But, to take a cold shower in the winter, I need willpower because I get up without any desire to take a cold shower in the winter. So there, I need willpower. Will - you learn afterward. First you need to know how to walk and then you can decide "yes to walk" or "no to walk" or to walk fast or to walk slowly. So, learning is slow. You do not need to deal if it is nice or not, or good or not. The only thing that it needs be is comfortable and pleasant to do. If it is not comfortable and pleasant, you do not learn anything. You learn to force yourself and this means to have the feeling of discomfort become foreign. And, if the feeling of discomfort is foreign for a long enough period of time, then the person certainly will ruin himself.
For example, if a person goes barefoot on glass, it is uncomfortable. He is uncomfortable. He can force himself to do it, and walk and walk.
Then, he will find that his whole leg is full of blood and for 2wks he will not be able to walk without bandages or he will not be able to walk at all. It is the same with most things like this.”
it’s one ‘lecture’ amongst four sprinkled between movements. You are welcome to continue exploring the movements, or listening, or taking in the information, here later if you prefer.
