*I’m changing the name of this lesson to backward head clocks*
… it seems much more fitting and also acts as a reminder for anybody with neck pain to take this lesson VERY VERY gently. Take pauses whenever you need to, go slowly, stay with the movements as much as you can… and very possibly… be delighted with the feeling at the end.
It’s another one of my love/hate lessons, the first time I did it I tolerated each variation waiting for the end… and then wishing it wasn’t over!
As the title says you will need a chair, ideally without side arms, only a back - to rest your arms on. You’ll be sitting like a cowboy facing the back of the chair with legs wide at the sides - grab something soft in case the position starts to hurt your legs. It’s important to be comfortable otherwise the discomfort takes over the show.
These little clips give you a sense of what will be going on inside as you do these movements - A LOT. There could be creaky sounds, grinding and some weirdness, that’s why it’s really important to keep your awareness astute and stop, take a rest before starting again - or lie down on the floor if it feels like you’re head is too heavy (I know that happened for me one time!)

Notice how much space opens up between each of the bones, that’s where the nerves feed through. When you hear “creating space between the bones”, that’s why your head lies on the ground a little differently between variations, we’re exploring all the different angles of this neck movement to… create more space between the bones, and thus… let the nerves flow through more freely.
When you are guided through the clock variations, these are the movements we’ll be doing.
I’m still getting used to this software, on my list is to learn how to remove that text about the vertebrae!
