Tonight we’re adding something a little different to lesson three, to familiarise our selves more with the Feldenkrais way, and Arlyn is the choice to do that. Her way of ‘teaching’, or delivering lessons is (in my opinion) very clear, as though she’s in the room.
This lesson is from her ‘Flexible Chest’ series and it compliments what we have been learning this week. The English language makes it sound like the chest is rectangular in shape with a lid that locks on to ‘the body’ of the piece.

There’s really not much movement in one of these chests, and sometimes watching people walking around, they look like they’ve got one of these in their bodies and they’re holding on real tight, protecting their treasure?
Which is the opposite of what Feldenkrais invites people to consider, Moshe saw the chest as something soft and flexible. When you think about it, it’s the ‘heart’ of our system, where our digestive systems pass what we eat in to the stomach. There’s a lot going on in this area and movement is necessary.
