A quote from Moshe in this lesson:
“The inability to lift the hand isn't primarily in the muscles, back, or joints. It primarily resides in your command mechanism. The command mechanism, your nervous system, isn't well organized. The nervous system -- your nerves, muscles, and skeleton -- are fine. They exist. However, there are big defects in the command mechanism if you cannot do this movement. That is why it is important to do more work with this aspect. That is why you do not improve when you only exercise.”
When I left the Australian training I continued my learning with Leora Gaster, the daughter of Mia Segal who was Moshe’s first assistant. Leora grew up with Moshe as a regular guest in her home and she recalls the frequent debates between him and her mother discussing movement, philosophy, science, martial arts (Moshe, Mia and Leora are both black belts) and all matters Feldenkrais. Side note, to watch Leora move is inspiring, at close to 70 she works from the floor with such ease it’s encouraging to know what *could* be when aging with a well connected skeletal system. She knows no other way, it’s how she learned to move from day1. And, Mia is still offering private lessons at the age of 90(something)
