The bones of the fingers feed through the palm to the wrist, where there’s a collection of smaller bones (I think of them as pebbles) that work together to rotate twist and bend the long bones of the fingers. With this large range of movement we can communicate with our hands, give the thumbs up, a big AOK, “hand” something over, push away, bring closer, carry, rest, support… our hands can say so many different things:
If you look at your hands right now, are the fingers curled forward or are they flat? How often do you bend the fingers backward and why would you do that?
This lesson provides some answers.
And YES, as well it calls for out of the ordinary movements, so please, be gentle, take your time and do only what is comfort-able. Think of these movements as ones that enAble comfort rather than cause stress.
IF the muscles and bones in your hands/arms have been flexed, curled inward, for a long time you could meet some resistance. Imagine them talking along the way “hey… what do you think you’re doing?” Then feel their sigh of relief… “oh, yeah, that feels good”.
What I’m learning about Moshe’s approach is that once the muscles, bones, ligaments and tendons have moved one way, when they return to their “natural” position there’s a sense of length and freedom to move.
This lesson is no exception, except.. it’s for an area that many forget to address.
